Care
Caring by christians grows out of an understanding
of the caring nature of God. We are empowered to minister by our
own experience of receiving God's love and care.
God's love and care is seen in creation where the
universe and persons are brought into being, given resources for
survival, and nurtured. That love and care are seen in expressions
of the covenant where freedom replaces slavery and where grace heals
broken relationships. The psalmist witnessed to this caring God
when he wrote, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want"
(Psalm 23:1). And God's love and care became evident most clearly
in Jesus.
Because of God, we can experience hope in the midst
of pain. Enveloped in God's care, we can grow toward wholeness even
in the midst of hurt. And as we find healing ourselves, we can be
caregivers ourselves.
So God's care and love continues to be expressed through
the body of Christ, His church. Caring is an expression of the "ministry
of all Christians". It is a fulfillment of the "priesthood
of all believers".
