Visual Truth
Our purpose is to create visual truth for the glory of God so that others can see and believe!
Who?
The ‘Visual Truth’ artists are a group of people who seek to bring glory to God through visual media. Including, but not limited to: paintings, drawings, poetry, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Our definition of an artist is a person who seeks to use their God- given creativity in any medium – some of us are ‘professionals’ by the world’s standards, but most of us are seekers and adventurers in the grace of God.
Why?
Vision is a very powerful form of communication. Throughout the Bible, God uses visual ‘aids’ to communicate truth to His people. When the Lord made a covenant with Abraham, he didn’t just merely speak. The LORD brought Abraham outside and said “look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them… so shall your offspring be.”
God used the stars of the night to help Abraham see and believe the truth. The stars also served as a visual reminder for Abraham of the words that had been spoken to him.
The visual arts are a tool that aid in seeing and interpreting the heart of the Father. They can serve as a bridge to help us navigate that sometimes treacherous terrain between our heads and hearts. The artist and viewer alike are more easily able to make the jump from seeing to believing.
When?
At least bi-monthly, a new theme is introduced by the team leader. Each artist considers the theme by praying, reading scripture and asking God if and how they can display His truth. Works are displayed in the church and/or vestibule for contemplation by the congregation.
